With so much panic and fear, so much uncertainty about the future, I thought this would be a good time to post the lyrics to one of my favorite hymns. It is the old hymns and some of the modern praise music that I find some of my comfort and peace. The other place I get these attributes is from reading God’s word, the Bible.
Because He Lives
God sent His Son; they called Him Jesus;
He came to love, heal, and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my Saviour lives.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow
Because He lives, all fear is gone
Because I know He hold the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives
How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives
But greater still, the calm assurance
This child can face uncertain days
Because He lives
And then one day I’ll cross the river
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain
And then as death gives way to victory
I’ll see the lights of glory and
I’ll know He lives
Chorus (sing 2x)
So the question, dear friend, is in whom are you putting your trust? God gave us doctors and medical professionals but they can only do so much. They are human too. But God is all-powerful (omnipotent), able to heal all of our diseases. But He is not Santa Claus, or a genie in a bottle that we can just use at will and forget about. He is just and holy. If we treated our friends and family the way most of us treat God no one would want anything to do with us.
Jesus paid our sin debt so we could go free, but if someone holds out a gift to you and you never take it, it isn’t yours. Your pardon is not granted you until you accept it as a FREE gift. To do this, you must admit to God (and yourself) that you are a sinner. (There are no perfect people; “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23. Romans 3:10 says, “For there is none righteous; no not one.”
John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Jesus offers you a chance to begin again, start a clean slate. He will help you make the changes He wants to make in your life, if you let Him. We don’t have the same view of ourselves as He does. He ALWAYS does what is best for us, even when it hurts. Getting spanked when we were growing up hurt, too, but it helped us learn how to behave and try to be good. When we accept God’s free gift of salvation He becomes our heavenly Father, and sometimes He sends storms in our lives to teach us that we can trust Him no matter what’s going on, to grow our faith, to let others see how God helps us through trials, and sometimes to straighten us out.
Give God a try. What have you got to lose?
