A Special Child

I don’t know who wrote this poem. It was clipped from a newspaper but I really liked it.

A meeting was held quite far from earth

“It’s time again for another birt,”

Said the angels to the Lord above,

“This special child will need much love.”

His progress may seem very slow

Accomplishments he may not show

And he’ll require extra care

From the folks he meets way down there.

He may not run or laugh or play

His thoughts may seem quite far away

In many ways he won’t adapt

And he’ll be known as handicapped.

So let’s be careful where he’s sent

We want his life to be content

Please, Lord, find the parents who

Will do a special job for you.

They will not realize riht away

The leading role they’re asked to play

But with this child sent from above

Come stronger faith and richer love.

And soon they’ll know the privilege given

In caring for this gift from heaven

Their precious charge, so meek and mild,

Is heaven’s very special child.

    1. I’m obviously a little behind in my emails so please forgive this late reply. Kaygy, thank you so much for visiting my blog. I don’t visit others as often as I should, but I intend to get better at it. Regarding the post, there are so many special needs children in the world and the parents have far more struggles and frustrations than those of us who have not had to deal with those issues. I think it takes a special person to be able to cope with all of it. It breaks my heart when people are cruel, or the marriage breaks up because of the stress, or the teachers won’t cooperate with the parents. They need all of us to pray hard that they will have the strength and stamina to hang in there, and to learn how to cope and how to teach their children when it sometimes seems impossible.
